Natural disasters always leave behind pain and struggle, but when floods hit Danyore in Gilgit Baltistan, the damage went beyond homes and roads. This time, the biggest challenge for families was not only displacement but also the severe shortage of clean drinking water.
The Disaster Unfolds
Heavy floods in recent weeks washed away vital water channels that supplied thousands of households in Danyore. The destruction left entire neighborhoods without access to clean water for drinking, cooking, and daily needs. Families who once relied on nearby water sources suddenly found themselves standing in long lines, searching for safe water for survival.
The Human Struggle
I have lived in this community my whole life, but I never thought I would see a day when people in Danyore would struggle for something as basic as water.
Muhammad Irfan
The shortage created panic across the community. Women and children had to walk long distances in search of water, while elderly and sick family members suffered due to dehydration and poor hygiene. Without clean water, the risk of water-borne diseases such as diarrhea, cholera, and infections increased, putting already vulnerable families in danger.
HWDO’s Immediate Response
Understanding the urgency of the crisis, Hamdardi Welfare and Development Organization (HWDO) stepped forward to bring relief. For the last 12 days, HWDO has been supplying over 120,000 liters of clean water daily directly to the doorsteps of families in Danyore. Our dedicated volunteers and team members worked day and night to ensure no household was left without water.
Why Water Matters Most
In disasters like these, water is life. Food, shelter, and clothing are essential, but without water, survival itself becomes impossible. Children need it for health and growth, mothers need it for cooking and caring for families, and patients need it for recovery. By providing water first, HWDO is helping families survive today while they rebuild their lives for tomorrow.

Although the emergency response has given temporary relief, Danyore’s long-term challenges remain. Damaged water channels need to be rebuilt, and sustainable solutions must be developed so communities are not left vulnerable again when floods or disasters strike. HWDO is committed to working with local authorities, partners, and donors to find long-lasting solutions for water security.
